EY Announces Steve Kohn of Broadway Industries as an Entrepreneur of the Year® 2021 New Jersey Award Finalist

Celebrating the 35th class of unstoppable entrepreneurs who transform New Jersey and beyond

Monroe, Township NJ – July 1, 2021 – Broadway Industries, a third-generation family-owned manufacturer of paper and plastic packaging products, announced that Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) named Steve Kohn, President of Broadway Industries, as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year® 2021 New Jersey Award. Now in its 35th year, the Entrepreneur of the Year program honors unstoppable business leaders whose ambition, ingenuity and courage in the face of adversity help catapult us from the now to next and beyond.

As one of 33 finalists selected by a panel of independent judges, Kohn says he’s honored to be included in one of the preeminent competitive award programs for entrepreneurs and leaders of high-growth companies. The nominees are evaluated based on six criteria: entrepreneurial leadership; talent management; degree of difficulty; financial performance; societal impact and building a values-based company; and originality, innovation and future plans. Since its launch, the program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries around the world.

Steve Kohn joined Broadway Industries in 1998 after gaining invaluable experience in the software, entertainment, consulting and accounting industries. For the past 23 years, Kohn and his team have continuously created novel twists on commodity paper and plastic packaging products . To protect the company’s intellectual property ideas, Broadway has so far filed 40 patent applications, 15 of which have already issued. “You never know unless you try,” said Kohn. “My dad always encouraged me to take risks, to dream, and to seek ways to disrupt markets through continuous innovation, and that is what I continue to do.”

As an industry leader, Broadway focuses on green initiatives and giving back. Most products produced are 100% recyclable and reusable and the company recently launched new paper and plastic product lines made with a minimum of 40% post-consumer recycled content. Broadway Industries also donates a portion of the revenue from select product lines to multiple charities and foundations.
